An innovative system that enables you to systematically explore tango situations and combinations.

What it is

The game is a structured system that enables you to hack the operating system of tango, facilitated by a physical card deck of 24 playing cards, each embedded with one aspect of the deep structure of tango.

With practice you’ll be able to use it to generate chance combinations of tango elements to discover sequences you’ve never done before, breaking your habits and ruts and also possibly your brain — and opening up your practice.

Now, when someone asks “what are you working on,” you don’t have to waffle or make something up. Just pull out your deck and start playing!

Important: Prerequisite

To play the Tango Fairytale Game, you need to understand one basic principle of nuevo analysis: the difference between an open step and a crossed step. Without this you’ll be pretty lost. Also, to play it well, you’ll need to be able to do at least 180 degree pivots nicely.

Play with a partner

The simplest way to start:

  1. Start by removing all the cards except the five yellow cards with orange boxes.
  2. Choose two at random, and decipher them, and then dance them.
  3. Repeat this until you’ve tried out a several different two-card combinations.
  4. Now choose three cards at random. Learn this as a sequence.
  5. Do your three-card sequence twice in a row (which means you do it on both sides.)
  6. Follow a similar process with the four orange-boxed blue cards.
